Level One

INDUCTION SIGNUP AND MENTORING

Level 1 is very much an apprenticeship. You undergo an induction and are assessed over time leading up to qualification on your abilities and knowledge. Once you are qualified you are expected to participate in classes as an instructor and will be given the opportunity to demonstrate and develop your abilities as an instructor teaching fundamental concepts and techniques. To start the process you must first sign up for induction.

After sign up you will be allocated a mentor. The mentor will be either a level 2 or 3 instructor and their job is to help you along with your journey to becoming an instructor. The mentor is also there to determine if you have the right attributes to become an instructor and may recommend that you be dropped from training if you aren’t showing the appropriate levels of interest and dedication. Once allocated a mentor you will need to complete 3 different tasks/challenges.

INDUCTION

The induction gives you an introduction to many of the different aspects of knowledge you will need to develop to become a good instructor. It includes theoretical knowledge that you will need to understand before you will be allowed to begin assisting with classes.

You will learn about:
• The history of parkour
• Exercise science
• Teaching concepts
• Parkour concepts and techniques
• Safety and procedural elements of running classes

As you continue to train and learn you will be expected to build on and continue the knowledge you have acquired during induction.

You will be notified when the next induction that would be appropriate for you will be running. If you live in a remote area then inductions via correspondence can be organised.

TECHNICAL ASSESSMENT

In conjunction with the induction you will be assessed on your technical ability. This includes technical aspects of classes as well as specific parkour ability. A level 2 or 3 instructor at any time can sign you off on your ability to do any of the listed tasks. You will be provided with a link to the assessment resource so you can track your progress and see what you need to work on and when you have completed the tasks.

The link below shows an example of the assessment resource; please note the types of assessments and the degree of competency required in many cases. Once the form is complete you are almost done with the qualification

BARRIER TESTING

Barrier testing involves a day of training in which you are put in different training situations to determine your level of ability and dedication. Apart from a few specific exercises, the barrier testing is determined by the instructor conducting it. It will always be physically and mentally demanding. It is specifically in place to make you question why you are wanting to be an instructor and to gain insight into who you are when you are under stress.
Before you can do barrier testing you must show that you can:
•Run 5KM without stopping
•Drag a person 25M, no stops
•Fireman’s carry 100M, no stops
